I began training with the Sing Ong Tai Chi school in 2004, joining my mum and brother. Initially this was alongside some external martial arts, and I solely continued my tai chi study because I was (and still am) fascinated by the depth and challenge of the art. I also absolutely love 'pushing hands' training with my peers - the challenge of applying principles of tai chi and experiencing function in softness, intent, and relaxed structure is very rewarding. As a teenager when I started, I was only interested in the martial arts side of tai chi, but after a few years I noticed that if I didn't practise for a couple of weeks, my mobility, stamina, and quality of sleep would all suffer, and I have come to deeply value the health benefits of tai chi. It also feels physically good to practise (relaxation, warmth, alertness, mood), and this increases as you improve! Whatever else I do to keep active, I cannot imagine excluding tai chi.
